YMCA Swim Lesson Policies and Procedures
- In most cases, inclement weather cancellations will be made at the beginning of the class, not before.
- All pools follow the same weather policies: Pools will close for 30 minutes upon hearing thunder or seeing lightning.
- Most sessions have 2 inclement weather make up dates set. However, the YMCA only guarantees 6 classes per session.
- Class duration depends on the age and abilities of the children. The younger children (3-5 years old) will average 25 to 30 minutes of instructional time per class while the older children (8-10 years old) may have a 45 minute class.
- Once a session has begun, if the child is pulled out of the class by the parents/guardians, the YMCA will only issue a credit. No refunds will be issued.
- The YMCA reserves the right to cancel any session for any reason. If this occurs, a full refund will be issued promptly.
- Any children causing major disruptions in the class will be asked to consider private swim lessons.
- All questions, comments or concerns regarding swim lessons need to be directed towards the Aquatics Director at 864.878.8380.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are the Swim Instructors Certified? All instructors are WSI certified, WSI Aide and/or Lifeguard certified.
Will my child be able to swim at the end of the session? Each child is different based on their age, natural ability, and motor skill
development. The younger children (3-5) usually do not pick up the skills as
quickly. We try to help the children enjoy the water and to be safe, while teaching
swimming skills.
Where do I need to wait during the class? Parents are not to leave the pool area. Parents may wait in the pool area at
the bleachers by the locker rooms in Pickens or under the shelter at Easley. For safety reasons, we ask that you bring your
child to the instructor at the beginning of the class and come to your child
at the end of the class and walk back with them. |
