Swim Team Coaches

Larry McMahan
Dedication, devotion, inspiration, motivation, and sheer excellence are just a few words that come to mind when you think of Coach LarryMcMahan.  From the moment a swimmer joins the team, regardless of his or her ability, Larry welcomes them whole heartedly and devotes his time to helping each swimmer succeed.  He instills in them the Y core values and challenges the swimmers to put their whole heart and soul in all that they do.  Not only does Larry dedicate hours beyond the duties of the head coach, he also encourages the swimmers to attend non-swimming events to build camaraderie between older and younger participants.  With Larry’s persistence and overwhelming concern for and belief in each swimmer, we not only call ourselves Piranhas, but also a big family.

My name is Lauren Marriott, and I am a senior at Clemson University majoring in Early Childhood Education. I started swimming when I was six years old.  When I was eight, I started swimming for Dynamo swim club, a year-round swim team. I continued to swim until I was seventeen years old and then made a switch to running.  I was a member of both the cross country and track teams at Clemson University for two years.  I have coached two different summer league swim teams in Atlanta over the past five years. I have a love for children and have also helped out with several kids camps over the years.

My name is Aimee McConnell and I am twenty years old. I was born in Atlanta, GA but spent most of my childhood in Northern Virginia before moving to Salem, South Carolina my Junior year of high school. With the help from my two older brothers and my two older sisters my Dad began to teach me how to swim at the age of three before putting me in swim lessons. After swim lessons, I started to swim on a summer league swim team from the age of five to the age of fifteen. My favorite strokes to swim are Freestyle and Butterfly.Currently, I am a junior at Clemson University studying to be a History teacher.  I am very excited to be a part of the Pickens YMCA swim team and I am honored to be able to teach young children to swim, a lesson I believe is very important to learn in life.

My name is Tresh Crosby and I cannot remember life before, or without swimming. I began swimming competitively at age 5, inspired by Mark Spitz in the 1976 Olympics. I swam year round in Spartanburg, SC on the Spartaquatic swim team, A U.S. swim team and also competed in summer swim leagues until middle school, at which time I quit competing, but continued lap swimming and training until present. I now compete when I can in sprint triathlons, and my love of swimming has never ceased. I began volunteering to coach the developmental super squad swimmers for Pickens County Piranhas in 2007 which I currently continue to do, and it brings me great joy.
