The drowning of a child and his aunt and uncle here in Easley really hit home with us. Too
many people are dying of water-related incidents, and not just in Pickens County but
around the world.
Instead of trying to get the community to
come to us we are going to go out to them. Drownings are preventable and everyone should do their part to
keep them from happening.

Drowning is a leading cause of death among children under 5 years of age.

Approximately 300 children under the age of 5 drown each year.

Nearly all of these children were being supervised by at least one parent.

For children aged 1 to 14, drowning is the second-most common cause of accidental death.

95% of pediatric drownings occur with children between the ages of 1 and 4.

A survey by the American Red Cross showed that almost half of the adults surveyed have had an experience where they nearly drowned, and 1 in 4 knew someone who drowned.
