Wellness Tips

Eat whole or natural foods: Stay as close to the earth as possible, and avoid foods that are refined, processed, or manufactured.  Respect your body and mind by ingesting clean, nutrient-rich foods that not only nourish you today but also ensure that you’re healthy tomorrow.  Examples are fruits, vegetables, low-fat dairy products, lean meats, whole grains, and monounsaturated fats.

Plan ahead: To achieve nutritional success, you should plan what you’ll eat before the time even comes.  Plan a weekly menu and create your grocery list (and buy only what is on your list.) Be a proactive, not a reactive, consumer of quality fuel.  You should walk into a dining center, restaurant, or grocery store on a mission because you already know exactly what you’re after.  This way you won’t get side-tracked by junk food.

Stay hydrated: America is really fortunate to have clean water readily available yet we continue to suck down gallons of sugary liquids.  Instead, drink 8 or more 8oz. glasses of water per day and you’ll be amazed how good you feel.  Adequate hydration helps your body get rid of fat.

Watch your portion sizes and color selections: A typical portion size of a food is ½ cup.  Try to make your plate a “rainbow”:  a brown grain, a green veggie, a yellow or orange fruit, a white meat, and a purple or red veggie.

Don’t believe the hype: You only get one body…educate yourself on how to best maintain it so that you can maximize its potential.  If you’ll invest minor effort up front to research nutritional truth, it will pay huge dividends later.  You’ll already know fact from fiction…

  • You’ll know not to buy into the latest fad diet because of its harmful consequences later.
  • You’ll know not to invest your hard-earned money in expensive diet programs with shameful long-term results.
  • You’ll know that the marketing behind the latest wonder supplement is often flat out false.
  • Instead, you’ll realize that solid nutrition is actually pretty simple and that your body is the most reliable source of good advice there is!
