Offering programming to meet the needs of our members and neighbors is one way the YMCA serves the community. We believe our programs should support, encourage, motivate and develop participants as we impact areas of healthy living, youth development and social responsibility.

An interest was expressed for a physical education program to accommodate the students in our area who are homeschooled, as similar programs are located much farther away in Greenville and Spartanburg. After surveying over 250 families, representing more than 500 youth, we received significant feedback from the community supporting the case for us to step in and meet this need.

Homeschool PE at the Powdersville YMCA will offer two sessions in the spring and two sessions in the fall, serving ages 5-14. Each session will include structured KidFit and TeenFit classes and open swim.

Ages 15 and up are eligible for a student rate membership, which includes four personal training sessions through our Journey program at no additional cost. A room will also be reserved for parents to gather and fellowship while their older children are participating in their class.

We are especially excited about the Healthy Habits component of the program, allowing homeschooled students to keep a log and earn points for healthy and positive lifestyle choices, such as physical activity outside of class. Points will accumulate from week to week and will be tallied and redeemed for a prize when the session ends.

Homeschool PE is open to both members and non-members.
