A partnership between the Pickens County YMCA, the United Way of Pickens County and the School District of Pickens County, Camp iRock is an innovative summer camp which helps children improve their reading abilities while having tons of camp fun. Each summer, approximately 288 rising 1st - 4th graders from all Pickens County elementary schools spend the summer engaging in exciting academic and enrichment activities at Camp iRock. Facilitated by certified teachers and trained counselors, the unique curriculum is designed to help close the achievement gap and prevent these at-risk children from falling behind over the summer months.

The 8 week program runs Monday-Friday, 8 am to 4 pm and includes, at no cost to the children:

  • Bus transportation
  • Breakfast, lunch and snacks
  • Swim lessons
  • Field trips
  • Music and arts
  • Physical activity
  • Nutrition and healthy living

Certified teachers, YMCA camp counselors, a Site Coordinator, Call Me Mister interns, and volunteer mentors provide a staff to student ration of 1:8 during educational time and 1:12 during enrichment and meal times.
